A Proposed Framework for Enhancing the Quality of Life for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities in Kuwait in Light of the Challenges of the Digital Age

Abstract

This research aimed to present a proposed framework for activating the requirements to enhance the quality of life for individuals with intellectual disabilities in Kuwait in light of the challenges of the digital age. To achieve this goal, a descriptive method was utilized. The research consisted of a general framework comprising its introduction, problem statement, research questions, objectives, significance, scope, terminology, previous studies, and their relevance to the current research. Then, a theoretical framework was comprised of three dimensions; the first dimension presented the conceptual framework for individuals with intellectual disabilities, the second dimension addressed the theoretical framework for quality of life, and the third dimension clarified the meaning of the digital age and its prominent challenges. The research then presented the proposed framework in terms of its objective, premises, dimensions, and mechanisms for activation. The proposed framework indicated that the quality of life for individuals with intellectual disabilities can be enhanced through the following: improving social services provided to individuals with intellectual disabilities, enhancing healthcare services for individuals with intellectual disabilities, improving educational services provided to individuals with intellectual disabilities, enhancing healthcare services for individuals with special needs in Kuwait, developing integration patterns for individuals with intellectual disabilities, activating recreational services for individuals with intellectual disabilities, activating the principles of upbringing individuals with disabilities in Islam, activating the principles of upbringing individuals with disabilities, activating the care provided by Islam to people in general and individuals with intellectual disabilities in particular.
