Abstract

This study aims to determine the attitudes of university students towards the phenomenon of extremism as one of the dangerous phenomena that threaten societies, and its impact on national unity in Kuwaiti universities. This is done through understanding the reasons and factors that contribute to extremism among university students, identifying the forms of extremism among university students, examining the impact of extremism on the cohesion of national unity in Kuwaiti society, and exploring ways to confront extremism among university students. The study utilizes a descriptive approach to describe the extent of the spread of extremism (tribal, sectarian, religious) among university students and its impact on national unity in Kuwaiti society. The minimum required sample size was 425 individuals from the study population (students in the College of Basic Education). The study found that one of the most important reasons and factors contributing to extremism among university students, from the perspective of students in the College of Basic Education, is the elitist attitude towards individuals from other tribes, sects, or denominations. Regarding the manifestations and forms of extremism among university students, the study revealed that there are certain manifestations and forms of extremism that need to be eliminated, such as refusing to marry outside one's tribe, sect, or denomination, and limiting interactions to individuals from one's tribe, sect, or denomination. Furthermore, the study highlighted the importance of national unity in Kuwaiti society, as the results showed an increase in awareness among the study sample of the importance of national unity in maintaining the cohesion of all segments of society and achieving justice and equality among all its components and groups.
