Assessing the level of climate change awareness among students of the Faculty of Education, Al-Azhar University In light of some variables

Abstract

                        The research aims at assessing the level of climate change awareness among the students of the Faculty of Education, Al-Azhar University, in the light of some variables. To achieve this, a list of scientific concepts related to climate change was created and categorized into general concepts, cause concepts, and result concepts. The research utilized an achievement test, behavior scale, and trend scale to assess aspects of awareness (cognitive, skill, emotional). The research was applied to a sample of 40 students from the Chemistry and Nature Divisions, as well as 40 students from the Arabic Language Division. The findings revealed that the level of cognitive awareness among Chemistry and Nature Division students was high, at 72%, while the level among Arabic Language Division students was average, at 60%. Additionally, both divisions had a lower than average skill level in understanding climate change concepts. However, the attitude towards climate change among students in both divisions was positive. Based on these results, the research recommends the need to increase students' knowledge about climate change and its environmental risks, develop content that covers climate concepts and the factors causing climate change, and provide training courses on climate change and its dangers to strengthen appropriate behavior and raise awareness about the risks associated with inappropriate behavior.
