Abstract

This research aimed to propose a conceptual framework for the Arabic language curriculum for sixth-grade students in Azhari schools in light of the linguistic performance quality standards. The research also aimed to build a detailed curriculum for the Arabic language in the first semester, represented by three units based on the proposed framework. Furthermore, the research aimed to assess the oral and written linguistic performance level of sixth-grade students in Azhari schools. To achieve the research objectives, the following tools were developed: a questionnaire to assess the oral and written linguistic performance skills suitable for sixth-grade students in Azhari schools, another questionnaire to identify the required quality standards for linguistic performance of sixth-grade students, a content analysis form for the Arabic language curriculum in the sixth grade of Azhari schools based on the final list of linguistic performance quality standards, a description of the proposed Arabic language curriculum for the first and second semesters of the sixth grade, three detailed units representing the proposed curriculum for the Arabic language in the first semester of the sixth grade, a teacher's guide for teaching the proposed Arabic language curriculum for the first semester using project-based strategies, a written linguistic performance test for sixth-grade students in Azhari schools, an observation card for assessing the oral linguistic performance of students, and a set of graded scales for evaluating Arabic language skills. After verifying their validity, these tools were applied to a random sample of sixth-grade students in two Azhari schools: El-Imbaba Azhari Primary School for Boys (experimental group) and El-Gehiny Azhari Primary School for Boys (control group), both located in the Imbaba Azhari District in Giza Governorate. The basic research experiment was implemented in the first semester of the academic year 2023/2024, where the experimental group studied one of the three units that were prepared, while the control group studied the prescribed curriculum. The research tools were then applied to the selected sample, and the results demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed curriculum in developing the oral and written linguistic performance skills of sixth-grade students in Azhari schools, as the experimental group outperformed the control group in linguistic performance skills. The research also identified a list of required oral and written linguistic performance skills for sixth-grade students in Azhari schools, a list of quality standards for linguistic performance necessary for students, a description of the proposed Arabic language curriculum for the first and second semesters, and the preparation of three detailed units for the proposed curriculum for the Arabic language in the sixth grade of Azhari schools. Based on these results, the research provided several recommendations, including the necessity to implement the proposed Arabic language curriculum for the sixth grade of Azhari schools, and the importance of developing the Arabic language curriculum for the preparatory stage of Azhari schools in light of the linguistic performance quality standards.
