Abstract

The research aimed to identify the role of Al-Azhar University in promoting the culture of acceptance of others among its students from the perspective of Islamic education. The research used the fundamentalist and the descriptive methods. The questionnaire was also used for collecting data from the sample of study. The research included four cores. The first core included a general framework that included the introduction, problem, questions, objectives, significance, methodology, and previous studies, then the theoretical framework of the research. The second core included the theoretical framework of the research, which discussed the conceptual framework of the culture of acceptance of others, and the factors of accepting others according to the perspective of Islamic education. Then presenting the mechanisms that consolidate the university’s role in promoting the culture of acceptance of others among its students from the perspective of Islamic education. The third core discussed the applied framework of the research (the field aspect, its procedures, results, and their interpretation). The fourth core discussed the general results of the research, recommendations, and proposals. The research concluded that acceptance of the other is defined as an individual’s assimilation of others regardless of their opinions, beliefs, genders, behavior, nature, and age, and accepting them as they are, with their perfections shortcomings, advantages and disadvantages. The research emphasized the necessity of moderation in the lives of individuals, which reinforces the work on the necessity of the individual in Islam displaying balanced behavior in each of the human psychological practices related to dealing with others. The research also confirmed that the origin of Islam is that it is a religion of gathering and familiarity, and the call to get to know people and mingle with them is authentic in its teachings. Islam did not call Muslims to isolate and flee from the costs of life. The study also emphasized the necessity of including the values of citizenship, tolerance, and coexistence with others among the university’s priorities, to be a focus for seminars, conferences, and all different activities, to help build bridges of interconnection and integration between different students. The results of the field study demonstrated that the responses of the study sample members to the four cores of the questionnaire were between moderate and weak, and this emphasizes the importance of strengthening the role of the university in promoting the culture of acceptance of others among students. The results of the field study also indicated that there are no statistically significant differences between the responses of the sample members to the total questionnaire and its sub-cores according to the gender variable (male- female). The results of the field study also elucidated that there were statistically significant differences between the responses of the sample members to the total questionnaire and its sub-cores according to the faculty type variable (theoretical- practical), and the differences were in favor of the highest means is the category of students affiliated with theoretical faculties. The results of the field study also elucidated that there are statistically significant differences between the responses of the sample members to the total questionnaire and its sub-cores, according to the nationality variable (Egyptian- expatriate), and the differences was in favor of the highest mean category, which is the category of Egyptian students. The results of the study elucidated that there were statistically significant differences between the responses of the sample members of Al-Azhar University students according to the variable of the sect (fourth - third - second - first), in favor of the fourth and third sects compared to the first and second sects.
