Abstract

This study investigated the level of psychological alienation and its relationship with the prevalence of irrational thoughts among a sample of Syrian students. The study sample consisted of 452 male and female students selected using a simple random sampling method. Two scales developed by the researchers were used: the psychological alienation scale and the irrational thoughts scale. The study's results showed that the levels of psychological alienation and irrational thoughts among the students were moderate. There was a positive correlation between psychological alienation and irrational thoughts in the study sample. Additionally, the study found no significant differences in the estimates of irrational thoughts based on gender, while there were statistically significant differences in the level of psychological alienation attributed to gender and in favor of males.
