Abstract

The research aimed to investigate the relationship between self-disclosure and social responsibility among educational counselors in the Southern Maazar District in Jordan. Additionally, it sought to determine if there were statistically significant differences in self-disclosure and social responsibility related to gender and practical counseling experience. The study included 55 educational counselors. To achieve the research objectives, the researcher developed a self-disclosure measurement tool comprising 44 items. Additionally, the social responsibility scale developed by Al-Kassabah (2022) consisting of 42 items was used. The reliability and validity of both instruments were established. The results indicated that the level of self-disclosure was average, while the level of social responsibility was high on the overall scale and its dimensions. Among the dimensions of social responsibility, responsibility toward society ranked first with a mean score of 4.41, followed by responsibility toward the community with a mean score of 3.99, and personal social responsibility ranked third with a mean score of 3.78. The results showed no statistically significant relationship between self-disclosure and social responsibility. Furthermore, there were statistically significant differences in self-disclosure and social responsibility related to gender, favoring males. However, there were no statistically significant differences in self-disclosure and social responsibility related to practical counseling experience. The study proposed several recommendations, including conducting lectures and workshops for educational counselors on the importance of utilizing self-disclosure skills, as well as leveraging their high social responsibility capacities and experiences to enhance social activities.
