Abstract

The current research aimed at investigating the effectiveness of the virtual labs in developing the practical skills in physics among third year secondary school students. The participants of the study, numbering (60), from third year secondary students in Al-Azhar Gharbia governorate were assigned into an experimental group (30) from Danoushar institution and a control one (30) from Al-Absheet institution. The experimental group students were taught the selected unit using the virtual lab while the control group students were taught the same unit using the traditional lab. The instruments of the study, namely; The observation checklist, was utilized. After the pre-post application of these instruments and the statistical analysis process, some results were revealed. The results showed that the virtual labs are effective in developing the practical skills in physics among third year secondary students. The results also showed that there is a correlation between the practical skills among the experimental group students. In the light of these results, some recommendations and suggestions were made by the researcher. Firstly, the necessity of benefiting from the experiences of the advanced countries in designing and using virtual labs in teaching science so as to be effectively applied in our schools. Finally, designing virtual labs websites on the internet so that teachers and students can benefit from such technology.
