Scientific Theses Trends in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at prince Sattam Bin Abdulaziz University in the light of the Research Methodology and Research Priorities Proposed in the Department

Abstract

This study was conducted to identify the research trends in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at Prince Sattam bin Abdulaziz University, Based on the research methodology and proposed research priorities within the department. The study aimed to explore research areas, research methodology, type of methodology used, sample characteristics, sample size, sample type, time frame of the sample, educational stages, and research instrument. To achieve the study's objectives, the researcher utilized the bibliometric analysis method and analyzed 45 master's dissertations completed in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at Prince Sattam bin Abdulaziz University from 2020 to 2023. The study reached several results, with the most important findings in terms of research priorities indicating that 33.3% of the dissertations focused on studying learning techniques, which was the highest percentage. This was followed by teaching methods and strategies at 24.4%. Regarding the research methodology employed, 40% of the dissertations used the experimental approach, while 35.6% utilized the descriptive approach. In terms of the research design, the highest percentage (93.3%) utilized quantitative methods, whereas 6.7% followed a mixed-methods approach. As for the research sample, 31.1% consisted of students, while teachers accounted for 6.7%. In terms of sample size, studies with an appropriate sample size represented the highest percentage at 82.9%. The distribution of sample types showed that 57.8% employed random sampling. Regarding the temporal age of the sample, 33.3% of the dissertations focused on individuals aged between 20 and 40 years. Regarding educational stages, other stages accounted for the highest percentage at 33.3%. Finally, concerning the research instrument used in the dissertations, the questionnaire was the most employed. The study recommended that researchers, particularly graduate students, should pay attention to different research methodologies and diversify data collection tools and explore various statistical analysis methods.
