Abstract

The current research aimed to develop a proposed reading program for the second secondary grade students in Al-Azhar insitiutes in light of the global trend of internationalizing education. To achieve this goal, the researcher adopted the descriptive approach to depict the problem, interpret and clarify its characteristics and features. The research instruments included a number of questionnaires: the first to determine the criteria of the proposed reading program, the second to identify the indicators and outcomes derived from the list of criteria, the third to determine the learning outcomes of the proposed program based on the identified criteria and indicators, the fourth to determine the units and topics of the proposed program, and the fifth to identify appropriate teaching strategies, learning activities, educational resources, and assessment methods for the proposed program. The research concluded with a proposed reading program that includes a list of reading criteria in light of the global trend of internationalizing education, indicators, learning outcomes, units and topics, appropriate teaching strategies, learning activities, educational resources, and assessment methods. The research recommended the necessity of internationalizing Arabic language curricula, especially in the reading subject, at all educational stages, as well as developing reading courses in light of the global trend of internationalizing education.
