Abstract

The objective of this study was to assess the training needs required to enhance strategic planning skills among faculty members at Umm Al-Qura University, considering factors such as gender, academic rank, years of service, and scientific background in strategic planning. Additionally, the study aimed to propose a training program to develop planning skills and analyze the strategies employed by faculty members based on their identified training needs. To accomplish this, a descriptive analytical approach was used. The study sample comprised both male and female teaching staff members at Umm Al-Qura University, totaling 234 participants who were actively employed during the study period. A questionnaire was designed to evaluate the training needs necessary to improve strategic planning skills among faculty members at the university.  The study revealed several key findings. Most notably, there was a high level of training needs identified across the five dimensions of strategic planning. Regarding the variables of gender, academic rank, and years of service, no statistically significant differences were observed in the identified training needs. However, a statistically significant difference was found (at a significance level of 0.05) in relation to the scientific background variable and its impact on the training needs for the third dimension of strategic planning. The participants with a scientific background in strategic planning showed higher training needs in this particular dimension.
