The Reialty of Using Social Media and its Relation to Some Variables among Children in Medina from Mothers’ Perspectives

Abstract

This study aimed to verify the status of social media usage among children in Medina and its relationship to some variables from the point of view of their mothers. The research sample consisted of the mothers of (450) of children in early and late childhood in Medina, Saudi Arabia. The descriptive comparative approach was used in the study. The study tools consisted of the Social Media Usage Questionnaire, prepared by Gupta & Bashir (2018), translated and modified by the researcher. The SPSS program was used to analyze the results of the questionnaire. The study concluded that the use of social media for entertainment came first, and its use for social interaction came second, followed by using it to obtain information, and finally the use of social media in the academic aspect. The study also found that there are statistically significant differences in the use of social media due to gender, and to the age group, in favor of the category (10:12) years. The study presented some recommendations regarding the need to monitor children and follow them in the use of social media.
