Prediction of academic dishonesty through moral disengagement and self-efficacy among Al-Azhar University students in the light of some variables

Abstract

The study aimed to determine the prevalence of academic dishonesty among Al-Azhar University students, and determine the extent to which there was a difference in academic dishonesty due to students' gender, academic level or type of study. The study investigated the relations of academic dishonesty with moral disengagement and Self-efficacy, as well as the predictability of academic dishonesty through moral disengagement and Self efficacy. In conducting the study, the descriptive correlative comparative method was used. Participants responded to the scales of academic dishonesty, moral disengagement and Self-efficacy. The study sample consisted of (697) Al-Azhar University students (304males, 393females). Findings of the study revealed a moderate level of academic dishonesty among the total sample. Findings revealed statistically significant differences between male and female students in academic dishonesty in favor of the male sample, and no statistically significant differences between participants in academic dishonesty due to academic level. the results also showed that there are statistically significant differences in academic dishonesty due to type of study in favor of Theoretical study. The results also showed a positive relationship between academic dishonesty and moral disengagement; While a negative relationship was found between academic dishonesty and Self efficacy in the (total sample, male sample and female sample). Results indicated the predictability of academic dishonesty through moral disengagement and Self efficacy in the (total sample, male sample and female sample).
