The effectiveness of a proposed unit in desert biology to develop awareness of desert environment among agricultural secondary school students

Abstract

The current research aimed to reveal the effectiveness of a proposed unit in desert biology to develop awareness of desert environment among first-year agricultural secondary students, and to achieve this goal study tools and experimental processing materials were built and included a cognitive test, a note card, an attitude scale, a teacher's guide and a book for student, and the design was chosen One-group quasi-experimental. The research sample consisted of (30) male and female students from first grade of agricultural secondary school, at Al-Wahat Al-Bahariya Agricultural Secondary School, the researchers had applied the research tools on the sample before and after, and the research concluded: - There is a statistically significant difference at level of α < 0.05 between the mean scores of the research sample in the pre and post applications of the cognitive test of awareness of desert environment in favor of the post application. - There is a statistically significant difference at level of α < 0.05 between the mean scores of the research sample in the pre and post applications of the observation card for awareness of desert environment in favor of the post application. - There is a statistically significant difference at level of α < 0.05 between the mean scores of the research sample in the pre and post applications of the scale of attitude towards awareness of desert environment in favor of the post application. This indicates the effectiveness of the proposed unit. The research recommended several recommendations, the most important of which is the inclusion of the proposed unit in desert biology in biology courses at the agricultural secondary stage.
