Developing the Social Studies Curriculum in Accordance to Dimensions of the Cubist Approach and Its Effectiveness in Developing the Historical Research Skills among Students of First Year of Preparatory School

Abstract

 The research aimed to develop the social studies curriculum among students of the first year of preparatory school in accordance to dimensions of the cubic approach, and then detect the effectiveness of the developed curriculum in developing the historical research skills of first year of preparatory school students. The researcher used the descriptive, analytical, and experimental methods to achieve this aim. The research tools were a questionnaire to determine a list of criteria for the requirements of the cubist curriculum suitable for the development of the social studies curriculum for the first year of preparatory school students. In addition, a content analysis form to determine the degree of availability of the criteria for the requirements of the cubist curriculum model in the social studies curriculum of the first year of preparatory school students, and a questionnaire to come up with a list of historical research skills, and a test of historical research skills. Moreover, processing materials were prepared, which were: the proposed vision of the developed curriculum, the student’s book, the teacher’s guide, the activity brochure. The research sample consisted of (60) students, who were divided into two groups, control and experimental, with (30) students per group. After applying the research tools, it was found There are statistically significant differences between the mean scores of the experimental and control group in the post application of the historical research skills tests in favor of the experimental group. There are statistically significant differences between the means of the experimental group in the pre and post application in the historical research skills test in favor of the post application. This indicates the effectiveness of the developed approach in developing historical research skills.
