Abstract

This study aimed at developing a suggested proposal based on the values of digital citizenship that might strengthen Egyptian university students’ national political identity. The suggested proposal introduces practical procedures that emerged from the theoretical framework and the research vision as well as its results. The study utilized the descriptive research approach to study the theoretical research variables; for revealing the correlation between the values of digital citizenship and national political identity among Egyptian university students from the point of view of their faculty members using a questionnaire. In other words, the study aimed at identifying the correlation between the indicators of national political identity (home love and belonging _ the law respect _ preservation of country facilities _ respect for country symbols _ appreciation of country achievements _ freedom of responsibility _ respect for other opinion _ justice and equality _ support for cultural diversity), and one of the classifications of digital citizenship values, namely,  values associated with the targeted learning experiences (digital empowerment _ digital knowledge _ digital communication), values associated with student behaviors (digital behavior _ digital rights and responsibilities _ digital security), and values associated with the environment outside the university institution (digital commerce _ digital law _ digital health and safety). The results revealed that there is a positive correlation between the indicators of national political identity and the values of digital citizenship according to the classification adopted by the study. Accordingly, the suggested proposal was developed based on the values of digital citizenship, which may contribute to strengthening the national political identity among Egyptian university students. The study recommended the necessity of formulating training programs that achieve the objectives of the suggested proposal by university institutions in the new republic.
