A proposed program based on employing service-learning projects in an education and community problems course to improve academic engagement and thinking passed on wisdom among female students of the Faculty of Home Economics

Abstract

The aim of the research is to improve academic engagement and thinking passed on wisdom among female students of the Faculty of Home Economics at Al-Azhar University. To achieve this goal, the researcher prepared a proposed program based on the employment of service- learning projects in an Education and Community Problems course (Chapter Two, societal problems).The research tools were the academic engagement scale with its dimensions (cognitive integration, behavioral integration, emotional integration) prepared by the researcher, and thinking passed on wisdom scale with its dimensions (self-knowledge, emotion management, altruism, inspirational participation, judgment, knowledge of life, life skills, readiness For Learning) Prepared by (Brown & Greene, 2006) Translated (Alaa Ayoub 2012), The research sample consisted of (27) female students representing all the students of the second year in the Department of Educational Home Economics, and the research followed the experimental method for the one group, and pre/post-measurement to identify the impact of the independent variable (the proposed program) on the two dependent variables (academic integration - wisdom-based thinking). The results of the research showed that there was a statistically significant difference between the mean scores of the research sample members in the pre and post applications of the two scales (academic engagement -thinking passed on wisdom) as a whole and their sub-dimensions, in favor of the post application.
