Self-compassion and its relationship to cognitive empowerment among families of newly diagnosed intellectual disabilities

Abstract

The aim of the current research is to identify the level of self-compassion and its relationship to cognitive empowerment among families of people with newly diagnosed intellectual disabilities. Mothers of newly diagnosed children with intellectual disabilities during the last three years of special education centers in the State of Kuwait. The results of the research indicated that there is an average level of self-compassion and cognitive empowerment among mothers of newly diagnosed intellectually disabled children, and the results concluded that the relationship between self-compassion And cognitive empowerment, whether in terms of dimensions or the total degree, was a direct correlation with a statistical significance, and the results indicated that there were no statistically significant differences in self-compassion and cognitive empowerment among mothers of children with intellectual disabilities according to the degree of intellectual disability, and based on the results of the study, some recommendations were made. The need to work on improving self-compassion and self-empowerment among these mothers.
