Abstract

The current study aimed to reveal the relationship of the Locus of control with the Big Five Factors of Personality among Mutah University students.  To achieve the objectives of the study, a scale for the  Locus of control and another for The Big Five Factors of Personality were developed, and the psychometric properties of the scale were verified for validity and reliability, and the scale was distributed among the students of Mutah University, (400) male and female students from the humanities and scientific faculties. After analyzing the data, the results found that the existence of an internal center of control among students, and an average level of extroversion and openness to experience, kindness and vigilance of conscience. While it found there was a low level of neuroticism, as it found that there is a positive correlation between the Locus of control with extroversion and openness on experience, kindness, and conscientiousness. While it found a negative correlation with the Locus of control and neuroticism, it found that there was a prediction of the Locus of control in two dimensions of the five personality traits, which are kindness and conscientiousness. There were differences in the impact of neuroticism and conscientiousness due to academic achievement in favor of the lower achievement level. Based on results of the study, there were some recommendations, including multiplication of events and activities in the university, which would develop and increase the confidence of students to increase reliance on their internal control center.
