The status quo of the institutional capacity of Al-Azhar University (a field study)

Abstract

      This study aimed at examining the status quo of the institutional capacity of Al-Azhar University through analyzing the Theoretical framework of the institutional capacity of universities, and revealing the status quo of the institutional capacity the elements of Al-Azhar University which are confined to: strategy, leadership and governance, organizational structure and financial and material resources. Providing appropriate proposals for developing the institutional capacity of Al-AzharUniversity. According to the nature of the study, the descriptive approach was used. a questionnaire was directed to the faculty at Al-AzharUniversity to determine the status quo of the institutional capacity of the university. The questionnaire was applied to (395) faculty at the university. The study found that: availability of the “strategy” was in the first rank with a mean (1.93) and an approval degree (Moderate), then the “organizational structure” with a mean (1.78). an approval degree (Moderate), then financial and material resources with a mean (1.61). an approval degree (Low), and "Leadership and Governance" came in the last rank with a mean (1.56) and an approval degree (Low). The study recommended the necessity to develop an ambitious strategy for Al-AzharUniversity that takes into account the needs of the stakeholders and the local community, as well as global variables that affect the work of the university. Moreover it should take advantage of modern trends in developing the financial resources of the university by focusing on self-financing and benefiting from gifts, donations and the returns of university services.
