Abstract

The present study aimed to identify the leadership style used in developing of leaders’ preparation programs in the Saudi public universities, and its compatibility with the pillars of Kingdom's (2030) Vision. To achieve the study objectives, the researcher applied the scale developed by Herold et al. (2008)-measure both styles of leadership: change and transformational- after translating it and verifying its validity and reliability on a random sample of 138 leaders, working in four Saudi public universities, who have participated in at least one of the leaders' preparation programs in the last three years. The results of the study showed that the leadership pattern of “change leadership” has emerged high in the content of leaders’ preparation programs in the selected universities, with weak content of the “transformational leadership” pattern in these programs despite the fact that the transformational leadership style is the most appropriate to the pillars and programs of Kingdom's (2030) from the leaders' viewpoint of the study sample. Consequently, there is a weak degree of compatibility between the leadership style most appropriate to the pillars of Vision 2030 and the leadership style used in leaders’ preparation programs in Saudi public universities. The study recommended adopting a model that the researcher developed to achieve a high degree of compatibility in this context.
