Abstract

The current research aimed to study the effectiveness of the inquiry pattern (guided - free) using web quest strategy e-learning platforms and the (analytical - holistic) learning styles in developing educational artificial intelligence mobile applications among instructional technology majors. To meet this end, the instructional content of the mobile applications has been designed in the form of instructional tasks that align with the nature of the inquiry pattern (guided / free) using web quest strategy. 100 students have participated in the study and were assigned into four groups. The quasi-experimental research was used, as well as the experimental design known as the 2x2 factorial design. The research tools consisted of an achievement test, rubric, and a product quality assessment sheet. The experimental treatment material was designed and administered to the participants. The results revealed the effectiveness of the guided versus free inquiry pattern; the analytical versus holistic learning style in developing cognitive achievement, practical performance, and the quality of educational AI mobile applications. The results also revealed that there were statistically significant differences due to the main effect of the interaction between the inquiry pattern and the learning style. The first experimental group that studied in the free inquiry pattern with their analytical learning style in e-learning platforms outperformed others in developing cognitive achievement, practical performance, and the quality of educational AI mobile applications.  The study recommended the need of paying attention to the AI mobile applications and training students and teachers on producing, using and employing them in the educational process.
