Abstract

The present study aimed at identifying some of the ethics that the users of modern technological products must adhere to, especially when using the international information network "the Internet", with an explanation of the Islamic vision for those products. The study used the fundamentalist approach for identifying this Islamic vision and stand on these ethics in the light of Islamic sources. The study revealed that Islam did not refuse the modern technological products completely. Rather, it permits the positive benefits and refuses the negative harmful ones. Moreover, the results indicated that the modern technological products have many drawbacks on the individual and society, and that the users of these products must have a set of ethics to protect them from these negatives. The study also showed that in order to achieve the desired benefit from these technological products, the individual must possess a set of skills and ethics. Whereas possessing skills and ethics results in positive use, while possessing skills only without ethics results in negative use. Therefore, the study sought to emphasize the significance of promoting the positive use of modern technological products among community members by providing them with the skills and ethics to deal well with each other. The study recommended that individuals should possess a set of ethics when using modern technological products, such as: piety, observance of God, sincere faith in Him, commitment to truthfulness and confirmation in the transmission of news and information, and avoiding violating the privacy of others or infringing on their right to keep their secrets, and not offending others or defaming their reputation. Finally, the institutions entrusted with preparing individuals in society seek to impart these ethics to them through their curricula and programs.
