Abstract

The aim of the research was to identify the relationship between positivity (optimism - positive thinking - psychological flexibility - assertiveness - self-efficacy) and life satisfaction among high school students (second grade secondary students). It also aimed to reveal differences in positivity, as well as differences in satisfaction with life by gender (male - female), and specialization (literary - scientific). The number of participants in the research was (400) male and female secondary school students (200 male students and 200 female students). The participants ages ranged between (15-17) years with a mean of (16.5) years. The current research used the following instruments: the scale of positivity (prepared by the researcher), the scale of life satisfaction (prepared by Magdy El-Desouki, 2013). The results of the research indicated that there is a statistically significant positive correlation between positivity and life satisfaction among secondary school students, and there is a statistically significant difference in positivity according to gender in favor of males. There are statistically significant differences in life satisfaction according to gender in favor of females, as shown. Finally, there is no statistically significant differences, whether in positivity or life satisfaction, according to the academic specialization (scientific – literary).
