The Effectiveness of a Proposed Unit in Interpretation Based on the Quranic Objectives Approach in Developing the Qur’anic Text Comprehension Skills among the Foreign Students at Al-Azhar Secondary Stage

Abstract

The present study aimed at identifying the effectiveness of a proposed unit in interpretation based on the Qur’anic objectives approach in developing the Qur’anic text comprehension skills among the foreign students at Al-Azhar secondary stage. The study adopted the mixed approach. For achieving the aims of the study, the researcher developed a list of the Qur’anic text comprehension skills suitable for the foreign students at Al-Azhar secondary stage, a proposed unit based on the Qur’anic objectives approach, and a teacher's guide for teaching them. The researcher utilized the experimental design (Pretest- Posttest One Group design). Participants of the study were (25) students from the Islamic Resurrection Institute. Results of the study revealed that there was statistically significant difference between the mean scores among students on the pre and post administration for the Qur’anic text comprehension skills test in favor of the post-administration. Also, the results also showed that the students willingness to study the proposed unit, taking into account the organization of the content, enabling them to understand the Qur’anic texts, and matching their standards and language levels that indicated to the effectiveness of the proposed unit in interpretation which is based on the Qur’anic objectives approach in developing the Qur’anic text comprehension skills among the participants of the study. The study recommended taking into account the necessity of preparing interpretation curricula for foreign students in proportion to their levels, characteristics of their growth, and their linguistic levels, and linking them as much as possible to the problems and issues of their societies, as well as adopting the Qur’anic text comprehension skills when developing the interpretation curricula for such students.
