The present study aimed to examine the nature of the structural model of the relationship between the symptoms severity level and friendship and loneliness among children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorder. The researcher applied the Dimensions of Friendship scale and the Loneliness Scale on a stratified random sample of (300) children and adolescents in Saudi Arabia, with the help of their parents in filling out the study questionnaire, and (251) parents responded. Using the correlational descriptive approach, the results of the study showed a positive relationship between the level of loneliness and the symptoms severity level of autism spectrum disorder, and inverse relationship between the level of loneliness and the dimensions of friendship. The results also showed the possibility of predicting the level of loneliness through these two variables, as these two variables (55.8%) explained the variance in the level of loneliness in the study sample. The results also showed an indirect effect of friendship dimensions -as moderator- on the relationship between the symptoms severity level of autism spectrum disorder and the level of loneliness. In light of these results, the study came out with a set of important recommendations in terms of improving intervention programs for children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorder.
