Abstract

The current research aimed to design a proposed digital module in local history based on national situations, and to assess its effectiveness in developing historical culture and decision-making skills among Al-Azhar preparatory stage students. To attain the purpose of the research, the researchers utilized both descriptive and experimental approaches (the one-group pretest posttest quasi-experimental design). Instruments and materials of the research were a list of national situations, a list of historical cultural dimensions, a list of decision-making skills, a proposed digital module and a student’s guide. Moreover, the researchers designed a cognitive dimension test of historical culture, a situational scale for the behavioral dimension of historical culture, a scale for the emotional dimension of historical culture, and a decision-making skills test. Participants of the research comprised (n=30) students enrolled in third -year Al-Azhar preparatory stage students at Mansoura Institute.  Results revealed that there was a statistically significant difference between the mean scores of the participants of the research in the pre/post-administrations of the cognitive dimension test of historical culture, the situational scale for the behavioral dimension of historical culture, the scale of the emotional dimension of historical culture, and the decision-making skills test favoring the post-administration, which confirms the effectiveness of the proposed digital module in local history based on national situations to develop historical culture and decision-making skills among the research participants.
