Psychological Well-being and its relationship to positive thinking in a sample of people with disabilities who practice sports activities: a clinical psychometric study

Abstract

The current research aims to identify the level of (psychological Well-being - positive thinking) among people with disabilities who practice sports activities, and to reveal the correlation between psychological Well-being and positive thinking among them, as well as to reveal whether there are differences in the average scores of the research sample members on the scales (psychological Well-being - positive thinking) according to the gender variable (males / females), as well as to reveal the differences in personality dynamics and psychological structure between high and low (psychological Well-being – positive  thinking) among people with disabilities who practice sports activities. The current research relied on the descriptive and clinical approaches, for their suitability to the nature of the research and its objectives. The basic research sample consisted of (150) individuals from people with disabilities who practice sports activities in centers and associations for people with disabilities in Damietta Governorate, whose ages ranged between (15: 35) years with an average age of (25.70) and a deviation of The standard value of (5.24), while the clinical research sample consisted of two cases, a female who obtained high scores, and a female who obtained low scores on the scales (psychological Well-being - positive thinking). The researchers used psychometric research tools, which included the psychological Well-being scale (prepared by the researchers), the positive thinking scale (prepared by the researchers), as well as clinical research tools, which included the standardized clinical interview, the clinical interview form prepared by / Abu Shaba (2004), Thematic Apperception Test (TAT) for adults prepared by / Murray and Morgan (1935) translated by Ahmed Abdel Aziz Salama. The results of the psychometric research showed a high level of (psychological Well-being - positive thinking) among the research sample of people with disabilities who practice sports activities, as well as the presence of a statistically significant correlation at the level (0.01) between the scores of the research sample members on (psychological Well-being scale and their scores on the positive thinking scale, and the presence of significant differences Statistic at level (0.01) between the average scores of the research sample members on the scales of psychological Well-being - positive thinking (dimensions and total score) according to the gender variable in favor of females, and finally, the clinical research results indicated the existence of differences in personality dynamics and psychological structure between high and low (psychological Well-being, positive thinking) of people with disabilities who practice sports activities, and the research concluded with a set of recommendations and proposals.
