Abstract

This study aimed to identify the most important factors for the success of qualifying the eight round teams in Asia cup championship 2023 in Qatar, and the most influential ones in positive and negative possession. The statistical analysis revealed that the number of matches that satisfy the positive possession was (18) matches, representing about (60%) of the total matches, whereas the number of matches with negative possession was (12) matches, with a percentage of (40%). The results revealed that passing accuracy and corners were the most effective factors for the qualification to the eight round teams in Asia cup championship 2023 in Qatar. Accordingly, the results were limited to two factors, as they had a statistically significant contribution to determining that qualification. The study set a linear equation to predict the values and ratio of possession, as follows:
Possession ratio= 1.440× passing accuracy+ 0.786 × number of corners- 62.316
After analyzing the relationship between the factors of qualifying the eight round teams and the scored goals in Asia championship 2023 in Qatar, it was clear that (general shots, and shots towards the goal) have a statistically significant relationship to qualifying the eight round teams. The results revealed that the values of significance level of the two relationships were positive. Even though the factors of (possession ratio, passing, passing accuracy, corners) have a positive relationship, this relationship is not statistically significant.
The study recommended the necessity of using the possession equation set by this study as it contributes to classifying possession either positively or negatively.
