Abstract

The aim of the current research was to study the moderating role of gender and the mediating role of moral disengagement in the relationship between the Big Five personality factors and academic dishonesty among university students. The research sample consisted of (390) male and female university students, and the mean age was (18.89) years. With a standard deviation (1.80). The researcher used the Moral Detachment Scale prepared by (Manal Abdel Naeem Muhammad, 2022), the Big Five Personality Factors Scale prepared by (Buchanan & Hegarty, 2023), translated by her, and the Academic Deception Scale prepared by her. The results of the study resulted in the presence of direct, statistically significant effects of the Big Five factors of personality, except extraversion, on moral disengagement, Also there is a direct, statistically significant effects of the Big Five factors, except extraversion, on academic dishonesty. There are also indirect, statistically significant effects of the Big Five factors of personality, except extraversion, on academic dishonesty. Through moral detachment. Gender did not play a moderating role in the relationship between the Big Five personality factors and academic dishonesty among university students.
